Groundwater in Full View
Technical presentations, a Gold Coast construction sites walking tour and a networking dinner in Surfers Paradise, QLD
The Southern Queensland Land Rehabilitation Group (SQLRG) will host its September Workshop in Surfers Paradise, bringing together industry professionals from across Southeast Queensland for a day of knowledge sharing, collaboration, and practical insight into groundwater management.
The day features a full program of presentations from leading practitioners and specialists, covering real-world challenges and innovative solutions across the groundwater lifecycle; from understanding it, to testing, to treatment and discharge:
- Chris Anderson (Anderson Consulting): Groundwater 101: The Essentials. A practical foundation on what groundwater is, how it moves beneath the surface, and why it matters during excavation and dewatering.
- Arthur Rodrigues de Aguiar (Wilson Environmental Compliance): Permeability Testing for Dewatering Design. Field methods for measuring hydraulic conductivity and applying the results to dewatering design.
- Lucy Mitchell & Rob Mitchell (ENV Solutions): Complex Groundwater Treatment: A Gold Coast Dewatering Case Study. Lessons from treating low-pH, metal-rich groundwater under acid sulfate soil conditions.
- Gerard Baarslag (Hydrotech Consulting): How Shoring Influences Dewatering and Water Treatment. How excavation and shoring choices shape groundwater inflows and downstream treatment requirements.
- Troy Warry (AusAOP): Groundwater Treatment Methods. Common contaminants from metals to PFAS, and the technologies available to manage them before discharge.
- Harry Gregg (Reditus Consulting): Groundwater: Out of Sight, Until It Matters. Real project case studies on identifying and managing groundwater risk before it leads to costly delays.
- Jon Tomsett (Turbid Water Solutions): Practical Water Treatment Chemistry. How coagulants and flocculants work on site to improve water quality ahead of environmental discharge.
The day will conclude with a relaxed walk down the beach to visit several sites to view current groundwater challenges and opportunities, ending with drinks and dinner at a location TBC (*dinner inc in price for Members only).
