SQLRG was founded in 2013 by Col Schiller during a CQMRG workshop at the University in Rockhampton.
The conversation shifted towards the absence of a ‘southern mines ‘voice in the northern workshops, and Col proposed the idea of a southern group. Encouraged by the response, he returned to Toowoomba and approached Rob Loch at Landloch, who generously offered financial support for the first meeting.
Together, they arranged for distinguished speakers and secured a venue at the Tor Street DPI. To keep costs low, Col even had to drive the rented bus for the field trip to the Acland Coal Mine. Our first newsletter, the 2013 call for papers, workshop agenda, and a handful of photographs are available below.
